Transaction evidence
Retain receipts and exchange records for acquisitions, transfers and disposals, including the transaction dates, asset details, other party or wallet address where relevant, and the Australian-dollar value at the time.
- Buy, sell, swap and conversion history
- Deposits, withdrawals and wallet transfers
- Fees and costs paid to exchanges, agents, accountants or advisers
- Wallet records, public addresses and evidence of ownership/control
- Software costs where they are relevant to your records
Export while access still works
The ATO recommends exporting records regularly—at least every three months—and downloading the complete history before closing an exchange account. Crypto Reconcile also recommends keeping each original file unchanged, with its original filename and download date.
Record retention
The ATO generally requires crypto records to be kept for five years, with the start of that period depending on the record and relevant event. Confirm the rule for your circumstances with the official guidance or a registered Tax Agent.
What Crypto Reconcile adds
CR keeps the Reporting Entity, timezone, source account, file identity, imported rows, historical rate provenance, matching proposals, user decisions and open findings connected. It is record-keeping and calculation software—not a substitute for professional advice.
